Virtual School Days

Posted: Updated:
Pascack Valley, New Jersey (My9NJ) - One New Jersey school district is using a creative and productive way for handling all the recent snow day closings.

Pascack Valley Regional School District was closed yesterday, but their students were still learning. Students in this region have district issued laptops that were handed out and students were expected to log-in and complete their assignments by the end of the day.

The plus side of this virtual school day is that it actually counts towards the New Jersey mandated 180 completed school days for the year.

Other school districts throughout New Jersey who don’t offer this virtual option are struggling to find ways to complete the school year. Many schools are forced to consider more inconvenient options like: extending the school year into the summer, taking away April vacation or even making students show up for classes on Saturday’s, in order to fulfill New Jersey’s 180 day requirement.

While this program isn’t offered throughout the Garden State, it may be a viable option for other districts to look into, especially if we continue this pattern of snow storms every three to four days.
