A massive head-on crash killed two men on I-635 near Lake June Road on Friday afternoon, according to Balch Springs Police.

A dump truck reportedly crossed over the median and collided with a pickup truck on the southbound side around 12:30 p.m., police said.

The dump truck and its trailer flipped on its side. It was hauling sand, which was thrown all over the freeway.

The driver of the pickup truck, Jesus Rivas of Dallas, was killed, along with the driver of the dump truck. The name of the man driving the dump truck has not yet been released.

A small grass fire was triggered as a result of the crash in a strip of grass next to the freeway.

All lanes on southbound 635 were closed for accident cleanup for nearly two hours. Two lanes of traffic reopened about 2:30 p.m., and all lanes reopened around 4:30 p.m.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the head-on wreck, but the Dallas County Sheriff Department's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit is conducting a crash investigation.
