MCSO seizes nearly half a ton of marijuana

Posted: Updated:

Deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office have arrested two men who they say were driving through the desert with nearly half a ton of marijuana.

Three people were driving a Ford utility truck and two ATV's, when they were stopped by deputies south of Gila Bend on Saturday afternoon, according to a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.  Deputies say the vehicles were loaded up with bundles of marijuana.

43-year-old Martin Aguirre and 62-year-old Mark Huffine were both taken into custody, but a third suspect who was with them was able to escape and remains on the loose, deputies say.  Deputies confiscated nearly half a ton of marijuana, as well as all three vehicles.
