Emergency crews rescue boy who was reportedly living in the sewer

Posted: Updated:

A teenager is in the custody of authorities after neighbors say he was living underground in a sewer near 48th Ave & Union Hills.

Phoenix Fire Department crews responded to a confined space rescue at the location Sunday evening.

After searching for the boy they found him with some scrapes and blood on his body. Authorities say he did struggle with rescuers but was handcuffed and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Neighbors nearby said the boy would come out and ask them for water and request they not call the police.
