Driver that crashed into Northwest HS students to be charged

Posted: Updated:

The driver in a fatal accident near Northwest High School that crashed into another car will be charged with unsafe speed for conditions.

The crash killed Shyann Hooper, 16, and injured her friend Brianna Christensen, 16.

The 31-year-old woman was driving a heavy-duty Ford pickup as the roads were starting to become slick with ice last Monday on FM 156 in Denton County.

DPS investigators said her truck lost control, crossed the center line and hit Hooper's car head-on.

Hooper died in the wreck and Christensen suffered a brain injury and remains hospitalized a week later.

A DPS spokesman said alcohol and drugs are not suspected, but investigators are waiting on toxicology results to make a final ruling.
