Trash Truck Driver Surprises Kid With Autism

Posted: Updated:

A California trash truck operator's kind act is going viral online. Driver Manuel Sanchez made a five-year-old autistic boy's day.

Little Daniel loves watching the trash get picked up from in front of his house, but on this one special day, the driver got out and decided to surprise him.

Video captures the moment as Daniel at first doesn't know what to do and walks back toward his mother; however, he eventually musters up the courage to wave at the driver.

Manuel had a big bag and gave Daniel a present, a little toy trash-truck. Upon seeing the present, the mother also revealed in the video that the boy actually had the same truck, but it got broken.

Daniel's mother Robin Newberger says that he used to be afraid of the trash truck. However, the truck now is his favorite and watching trash collection is a weekly ritual for him:

He loves the predictable movement of the hoist and is excited by the entire spectacle. He waits all week for Monday morning pickup. He knows exactly which cans are being picked up each week, and Sundays are special for him when he takes the cans out with his dad. Our recycle man, known only to us as Manuel, is his favorite. He always has a big smile for Daniel, who is faithfully waiting for him every Monday, Newberger wrote.

This video has gotten more than 750,000 views. Stories written about the video have also been shared all over social media. For example, more than 28,000 people have shared the story on The Blaze.

Comments all over the Internet have shown some warmness over the video.

Scott Reibo shared the video on Google+ and wrote, "This is SOO Great!"
