Surveillance: Suspect Jumps Across Counter To Grab Register

Posted: Updated:

The suspect looked directly into the surveillance camera before trying to rob a restaurant, and Northeast Detectives want to find out what prompted him to be so bold.

Philadelphia Police say they're seeking to identify the suspect who attempted to rob the Great City Restaurant in Frankford.

It happened on Feb. 6 at 10:20 p.m. Police responded to a robbery at the restaurant, located at 5100 Frankford Avenue. According to police, the suspect tried to climb over the counter to open the cash register.

You can see surveillance video as the suspect stands at the counter and waits. Eventually, when he sees the right opportunity, he leans on the counter and hops across. He then tries to access the cash register.

When the employees attempted to stop the suspect, surveillance shows the suspect punching one worker while attempting to escape. He was last seen running south on Frankford Avenue toward Pratt Street, according to investigators.

Police described the suspect as a black male, 45 to 50 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 230 pounds and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and knit hat.

If you see this suspect do not approach him, instead, contact 9-1-1 immediately, police said. To submit a tip via telephone, dial 215-686-TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP (773847).
