GLENDALE, Ariz. -

A motorcyclist on the run from police -- weaving in and out of traffic at speeds of over 100 miles per hour before he ditched his bike and tried to hide from police inside a valley mall near Loop 101 and Bell Road.

The suspect ran inside the Macy's store at the Arrowhead Mall, then tried to change his clothes to avoid being caught.

But he was caught and just before 9 p.m., he was led into the 4th Avenue Jail.

The Department of Public Safety says 21-year-old Robert Tinta had no criminal record, but tried to get out of a speeding ticket Tuesday afternoon by running from the police.

"I was like, is this a TV show?  Then realized that it wasn't," said Dushaun Stosie, who witnessed the arrest.

Shoppers at the Arrowhead mall didn't know what to think when a young man was taken down by officers inside the Macy's.

"What they did was grab him by the arms, then they slammed him on the jewelry counter," said Stosie.

Officers say they caught Tinta from Surprise after he wouldn't pull over after he was allegedly driving recklessly on Interstate 10.

"We had a motorcyclist at excessive speed, darting in and out of traffic, which we call splitting.. which causes a lot of collisions and one of our officers witnessed this behavior," said DPS' Bart Graves.

Authorities say Tinta took off to Interstate 17, then used surface streets to get to Loop 101.  He then made his escape to Arrowhead mall, ditching the bike by the south entrance, then running to Macy's.

"He goes to the men's department, grabs a pair of pants, puts them on in the fitting room, comes out of Macy's, tries to blend into the crowd.. one of our sergeants sees that one of these is trying to calmly sip a soft drink," said Graves.

He was immediately taken into custody.  The arresting officer said that the pants the suspect allegedly stole, his excessive sweating and helmet marks on his face gave him away.

Tinta faces charges of unlawful flight, shoplifting, endangerment, reckless driving and knowingly displaying a false license plate.
