Paterson’s Bravest

Posted: Updated:
Paterson, New Jersey (My9NJ) - With all the snow storms and state of emergencies taking place in New Jersey, first-responders throughout the Garden State have been working extra hard to make sure that people are safe.

While most residents are asked to remain home and not venture out during snow storms, firefighters and police officers are out and about making sure that people are safe and things are running smoothly.

The Paterson Fire Department is the third largest in the state and has about 350 members. This department also operates six ambulances and answers about 6,000 calls a year.

So far in February alone, the department has raced to nearly 25 fires. Chief Brian McDermott talked about how this year is a lot more active than most.

“That’s a lot, that’s a strain on the resources, it’s a strain on the economy here and we do what we can to try and keep in check and reduce property loss and life loss,” he said.

During snow storms, firemen are also responsible for going out and clearing all the fire hydrants to make sure they are easily accessible should a fire take place.

Back at home-base the firemen actually have a driving simulation device that is used for training purposes. This virtual device gives you an idea of how big a fire truck is to maneuver around the local roads.

Being a Firefighter is a dangerous job, but most of these men wouldn’t change their profession for anything.

“It’s the best job in the world. We come in and we help people, that’s all we do,” Fireman Kyle Hughes said.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
