Ft. Worth officers cleared in 2 unrelated shootings

Posted: Updated:

A Fort Worth police officer who was wounded in a shootout with a suspect he killed has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

A Tarrant County grand jury did not find any evidence to charge Officer Marty Stone for the April 2013 fatal shooting death of 29-year old Brandon Alexander Smith.

Smith had allegedly just robbed a Whataburger.

Officer Stone was shot in the leg and used his medical training and military experience to save his own life.

Additionally, another Fort Worth officer was cleared of criminal charges for a deadly shooting last June at an apartment complex.

Police say the officer in that incident was one of three officers who rushed to help a woman being stabbed. The officer shot and killed the attacker when police say he refused to drop the knife.

Police say all three officers in that incident then turned their attention to saving the victim from her wounds.
