The four Republican candidates for Texas Lieutenant Governor are now going hard after each other.
Up until this week, they had been content with talking tough on immigration and invoking the unpopularity of President Obama. But now, Todd Staples, Dan Patrick and Jerry Patterson have trained their sights on each other and incumbent David Dewhurst.
First, Jerry Patterson hired an investigator to look into claims that Dan Patrick had hired illegal immigrants to work at his restaurants back in the 1980s.
Although Patrick admitted it had happened, he denied he knew about it then, and he shot back with his own hard-hitting campaign commercial in which he targets the other three candidates in the race, as well as President Obama and even San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro.
Additionally, Todd Staples has taken aim at Dewhurst with his latest, in which he invokes the Lt. Governor's embarrassing loss to Ted Cruz in the 2012 U.S. Senate race.
With early voting already under way, and with only 13 days until the election, expect this race to get even uglier.
All four candidates have money to spend on attack ads as they battle for the second highest office in the state.
