If you love fried food, but hate the fat and calories, the folks at Philips say now you can fry with air.
FOX 4 consumer reporter Steve Noviello put that claim to the Deal or Dud test.
The Philips Air Fryer is designed to deliver "crispy on the outside, tender on the inside" results with little to no oil at all.
chef Anthony Russo is used to working where everything on the menu is made
fresh and is authentically Italian. He ecided to test out the fryer.
Even though the fryer doesn't require any oil, the recipe FOX 4 used calls for about a teaspoon of it to make fried mushrooms.
The ingredients sat in a cooking basket, and then an adjustable time and temperature were set.
After about 20 minutes, the mushrooms were both cooked and crispy.
"I think it's [a] deal," said Russo. "Yeah. Healthy cooking; no oil. It's not bad!"
We noticed we didn't get that golden brown color you would with a traditional fryer, and deep frying adds more flavor, but because it also adds more oil.
