In an effort to get his agenda back on track following the break of bridgegate, Chris Christie headed to Middletown, New Jersey for a massive town hall meeting to discuss the issue of Sandy recovery efforts. Although residents posed different questions to the governor, his main points focused on the issue over FEMA’s involvement with the recovery efforts around the state.
“FEMA is the new F-Word,” Christie said.
Christie attempted to point fingers at the federal government regarding many delays in recovery efforts. However, some lawmakers like Senate President Steve Sweeney and Congressman Frank Pallone believe the Governor is wrong for putting the blame on FEMA. Sweeny stated it was bad management on behalf of the Christie administration so much so that he commended the efforts of FEMA on how they handled these allegations.
FEMA also responded to the Governors allegations stating that it’s the states mistakes in the assessment of damage. They think the state only calculated for emergency and immediate needs and did not consider peoples long term rebuilding needs.
Regardless who is to blame on the new delays, Christie’s town hall meeting proved to the state that many residents are still struggling to get their lives back in order and the bickering between federal and state emergency services needs to stop.Watch Chasing New Jersey weeknights at 10pm on My9 and don’t forget to like us on Facebook!
