A fire in Oak Cliff kills one child and sends two people to the hospital

A child is dead and two people were sent to the hospital after a fire Sunday morning.

It happened at the Village Oaks Apartments at 3550 E. Overton Road in east Oak Cliff just before 7:00 a.m..

Three of the six people inside the unit that caught fire were able to make it out safely. However, an elderly woman and a child were taken to a local hospital with burns and smoke inhalation, according to a Dallas Fire-Rescue Department spokesperson. Another child was found dead on the scene after the fire was put out.

Investigators are trying to determine what started it but they do know it started on the second floor. Firefighters reported there was a lot of fire coming from the two story apartment building.

Eight units were affected. The American Red Cross has been notified, according to a Dallas Fire-Rescue Department spokesperson.
