The singer Robin Thicke and the actress Paula Patton have separated after nine years of marriage, according to People.com.

"We will always love each other and be best friends," they said in a statement given exclusively to People magazine, "however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time."

Thicke, 36, and Patton, 38, met as teenagers. They have one son.

Thicke's latest hit is "Blurred Lines."

Patton is known for her roles in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," "Precious," and "About Last Night."
