Ron Washington gets one-year extension from Texas Rangers

Posted: Updated:

The Texas Rangers announced a one-year contract extension on Monday for manager Ron Washington.

The extension takes Washington's current deal with the Rangers through the 2015 season. Washington's contract was set to expire at the end of this season.

"Ron Washington leads our club with a vast knowledge and passion for the game," said Rangers President Jon Daniels in a statement.

Washington has been the Rangers' manager since the 2007 season and helped lead the club to back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011.

Washington is 611-524 in his seven seasons as manager, good for a .538 winning percentage. Both are the best in franchise history.
