The Dallas Police Department launched its new social media push on Monday.
The department is using the hashtag DPDTweetsBIG to get out the message to the public as well as post photos of the new effort.
Dallas police have been using Facebook, but thought expanding to other platforms like Twitter and Pinterest would be a good way to expand its outreach. Chief David Brown had already been using Twitter, but the new effort will add more police personnel to the tweeting effort.
The department also started a new web page, DPDbeat.com, that has information on the latest police news and also has links to the Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook pages.
