First graders at Lakeside Elementary School in Coppell know how to mobilize for Leukemia Texas patients.
In just two weeks, they collected hundreds of comfort items for their Bags 'o Love, which to go children and adults fighting leukemia.
The 6- and 7-year-olds wrote letters and public service announcements, asking for donations of new stuffed animals, bottles of hand sanitizer, facial tissue and more.
Each student's letter also included happy artwork.
The students are involved in project-based learning. By collecting Bags 'o Love the, children learned why it's important to give back to others.
They're also learning the difference between needs and wants; such as needing air, water, and medicine to treat leukemia versus wants like a skateboard or a doll.
The bags will be sent out by the end of March.
