One of New Jersey’s finest will be hitting the small screen as a contestant in the upcoming season of Survivor. Officer Tony Vlachos and fellow castaways are sent away to Cagayan, Philippines where this Jersey City native and self-described “city slicker” said he would have never envisioned putting himself through the Survivor experience. However, as the years went by he started to believe he could take on this difficult challenge.
“I was watching the show for many years and I was like you know what, I have to do that! It’s just something that I deal with in the streets every day of my life as a police officer,” Vlachos said.
Vlachos street smarts will assist him in the mental challenges when facing logical aspects of the game, but his wits are not the only thing contributing to his survival. This season the producers are splitting the contestants into three groups: Brains, Beauty and Brawn. Since Vlachos is able to bench press up to 315 pounds, he undoubtedly earned his spot in the brawn category.
In preparation for the big competition, Vlachos gained 15 pounds knowing he will be losing that weight during the long days and intense challenges.
