Family of slain Arlington man pleads with public to find suspect

Posted: Updated:

The family of an Arlington shoe store manager killed during a Tuesday robbery is pleading with the public to help track down a suspect seen in surveillance video.

The 22-year-old victim, Rancy Pacheco, was shot to death at Red Wing Shoes in the 3100 block of S. Cooper Street.

His body was found around 2 p.m. in the back of the store.

Police are trying to work quickly to identify a suspect. There were video cameras inside of the shoe store, and police have released clips to see if they can get any leads.

The suspect was wearing shoes that were a distinctive blue color.

The suspect may have been driving a light or champagne-colored late 90s or early 2000s Toyota Tacoma with a lift and oversized tires, police said.

Pacheco's family said Wednesday that they are overwhelmed and brokenhearted.

"Our little brother Randy Pacheco is gone, and nothing can replace him or make it right," said Lauren Herrera, Pacheco's sister-in-law.

The store owner's son, Bradley Reinwald, said Pacheco was more than just an employee -- he was family.

"The [suspect] was a coward…pulled a gun on a guy for $200," said Reinwald. "Just sad what people would do for $200."

Police said the store's front door was locked, but the back door was unlocked.

When the gunshot was heard, folks from nearby businesses went looking to see what happened.

There were some customers inside the Subway who apparently saw a suspicious man looking inside the window of the store, and then a short time later they heard the shot.

Detectives say violent robberies of this kind are rare.

"Typically, during a robbery, the best course of action is to comply with the robber, give them what they want, and violence is not usually the end result," said Sgt. Jeffery Houston with the Arlington Police Department.

Police are asking for the help from anyone who was in the area of the shooting between noon and 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 817-459-5300.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously via Crime Stoppers at (817) 469-TIPS (8477).
