Tarrant County residents warned about jury duty scammers

Posted: Updated:

Tarrant County officials said scam artists are asking people to make payments over the phone for not appearing at jury duty.

The scammers will call residents in Tarrant County and tell them there's a warrant out for their arrest for not showing up for jury duty, then tell them they can pay a fine with a credit card to avoid an arrest.

Officials emphasized they would never call people demanding a payment over the phone.

"Typically we would send a constable out to you, somebody with a bench warrant that said ‘pick up this person and bring them to the jury room or the courtroom,'" said Tarrant County Jury Bailiff Paula Giaimo Morales. "Then once you get to the courtroom, that judge would assess a fine or any kind of penalties by the court."

Residents who have received calls about failing to appear for jury duty can contact Tarrant County Jury services for more information at 817-884-3820.
