Posted: Updated:

Chester firefighters worked through the frigid temperatures to knock down flames that hit three houses in an afternoon fire.  Fox 29's Dave Kinchen Spoke to one the families affected by the fire.

"I just see the flames come out the house so I jumped back it was so hot.  I was on the street and the heat was coming towards me," said the victim's brother.

He described the horrific 2nd alarm fire his sister and her two kids survived on the 1100 block of Thomas Street in Chester Township.

"It happened so fast," he continued.

They are keeping warm in this SUV, sorting out their next steps after a terrifying ordeal.

"I seen the lady who live here, she ran through the house and the big flames, all the windows and stuff was popping out of the window," recalls neighbor Mattie Walker.

Sadly a dog and 10 puppies died in the fire.

"They just miss their dog.  I'm going to get them another dog," said the victim's brother.

Cell phone video shows powerful flames pushing their way to houses next door, which prompted Jack Bell to go after four kids and a pet.

Bell said, I "ran across the street because there were people in the house, so I made sure everybody got out on time before it spread."

The cold weather required Chester Fire Officials to call out for extra manpower and resources.

No people were injured in the fire and the Red Cross is helping those displaced.

Fire officials believe the fire was caused by a space heater.
