Lea Michele thanks fans in NJ

Lea Michele's solo career is off to a solid start. Her debut album hit No. 1 on iTunes in its first day. The New Jersey native returned to her home state to show her fans some love.

So how does it feel to have all these fans chanting her name?

"I was really nervous because I thought no one would show up today I thought it would only be my family so it really means a lot to me," she said.

More than just a few family members came out to support Lea Michele as she signed copies of her debut album "Louder" in Paramus.

Five years after singing her way into our hearts as Rachel Berry on "Glee," she's finding her voice as a solo artist.

"On Glee I do all covers of other people's music," Michele said. "So, this was the opportunity for me to sing my words, and my emotions, and my stories. It's very personal. It comes with a lot more pressure."

The soprano has been belting out Broadway tunes since she was 8, but waited to release a record until the timing was right. Making the album took a year and a half. Within that time Michele was blindsided by the tragic passing of her co-star and boyfriend Cory Monteith last July. She added the heartbreaking ballad "if you say so" after his death to reflect on the last moments she shared with him.

As Michele lays the groundwork for life after "Glee," she's found a die-hard fan base that will follow.

What inspires Michele? Her fans.

"I'm constantly trying to grow as an artist and having the support from my fans is so wonderful," she says.
