Fort Worth policeman shoots suspect who charged at officer

Posted: Updated:

A Fort Worth police officer shot a robbery suspect early Thursday morning who allegedly charged at another officer with a pry bar.

Police responded to a burglary call at the Riverwind Apartments in the 2800 block of Westwind Circle about 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. They came across a suspect when they arrived who, police said, raised a pry bar when he saw officers and charged at an officer.

Police said a second officer, concerned for the safety of the other officer, fired his weapon and hit the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition. The two officers involved were not injured.

An investigation is underway into the incident, which is normal protocol for officer-involved shootings.
