There has been an large outpouring of support for Detective Hobbs, Casados, and their families. Members of the community came out to a barbecue benefit being held in downtown Phoenix Thursday afternoon and into the evening.
The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association spearheaded the BBQ at their building located near 11th Avenue and Adams in Phoenix.
Volunteers cooked up hamburgers and hot dogs with donations being accepted to help the families. An estimated $100,000 was raised including a $20,000 check from an anonymous donator.
"It's one of those dealings for us as police officers its very heartening and uplifting to feel the support from the community you serve so in that respect its just been absolutely phenomenal," said Ken Crane with the PLEA.
"It's really a bitter sweet thing, it's certainly bitter that we lose a public safety officer in this way in any way but the beauty of it is you really see that community and the organizations come forward in mass," said Phoenix Fire Dept. Deputy Chief Chris Ketterer.
