New golf entertainment venue coming to Scottsdale

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

You may have noticed some construction taking place near the Loop 101 and Indian Bend. Huge nets are being set up for a new entertainment venue called Top Golf.

Top Golf is set up like a driving range. There are microchips in golf balls that you hit into targets which give you a score.

The company says they plan to have this project complete and it will transform an outfield at the location into a high-tech, multi-level golf course entertainment complex.

Sounds of construction will be replaced with live music and the swish of golf clubs.

Top Golf has a dozen locations across the country, most of them based in Texas, and Arizona is the site of two more locations.

"It's not virtual golf it's actually real golf, with real golf  clubs at each bay. The balls are real, they just are fitted with a microchip," said Hana Khouri with Topgolf.

It's like bowling meets darts, meets golf. When you swing the ball it goes into the outfield area, the balls have sensors on them, and your points show up on the TV monitor nearby.

"We get everyone from the very avid golfers to the people who just want to out and have a great time... What's so great about top golf is that families might want to come in and enjoy the atmosphere and someone might want to come in and enjoy the live music... It is separated on 3 levels so we really have something for everyone here," said Khouri.

Top Golf also plans to build a location in Gilbert bringing close to 400 jobs per location. "We're looking for individuals who have a great personality are really bubbly but can also provide really good experience for our guests," said Khouri.

The Scottsdale Location is scheduled for a soft opening date of Memorial Day. The company plans to begin hiring employees in early May.
