Shinola unveils city clock in front of Cobo Center

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (WJBK) -- Detroit luxury goods maker Shinola unveiled the first of four city clocks Friday in front of Cobo Center.

The clock stands nearly 13 feet tall and 38 inches in diameter. It is based on Shinola's pocket-watch design, which will be released later this year as the second watch in Shinola's Great Americans Series.

"It's our contribution to Detroit to help in the beautification process and also to encourage meeting places around the city," said Bridget Russo, Shinola's marketing director.

Russo says three more clocks will be unveiled around the city before daylight savings time begins on March 9. The locations will include Detroit's Eastern Market, in front of the company's headquarters on Baltimore and Cass and at W. Canfield and Cass, where a dog park will open in June.

To celebrate the unveilings, Shinola reps will hand out free Great Lakes coffee in front of the Eastern Market clock on Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to noon.
