Police: Tempe man was caught taking up skirt photos at Target store

TEMPE, Ariz. -

A Tempe man is behind bars after he was allegedly caught taking up skirt photos of a woman while she was shopping in a Tempe store. It happened at the Target in the Tempe Marketplace.

The 26 year old suspect's social media page says he is an aerospace engineering student at ASU. Tempe Police are accusing him of being a peeping tom who is now facing a felony charge. Investigators say he admitted to secretly pointing his camera up a woman's skirt and taking pictures.

Police say the victim had no clue that she was being followed by 26 year old Patrick Kennamer as she was shopping and did not know that he was taking up skirt pictures of her with his cell phone. Target security officers say they caught Kennamer in the act and called police.

"It makes me feel a little bit safer here,if they're keeping an eye out because a lot of times you think they're just looking for people shoplifting and stuff like that. That they even said something and caught him that's great," said Stephanie Milam-Edwards.

"I'm not shocked by it, it's something that goes on all the time I'm very thankful the gentleman was caught," said Tirzah Heywood.

Arizona has a specific law making it illegal for people to take up skirt photos with their cell phone its a class 5 felony and anybody convicted could spend 6 months to 2 years behind bars. Arizona lawmakers passed the so called "peeping tom" law in 2008. But one shopper doesn't believe the penalty is enough to stop a voyeur.

"He'll get out early because we're overcrowded and do it somewhere else. If not at Target, somebodies WalMart, Frys, any kind of store where there's enough people around that he doesn't attract attention," said Heywood.

She says it's a good reminder to women, be more aware of your surroundings. "It does make me think twice about people that walk around," said Stephanie.
