Iraq War Veteran Reunites With His K9 Sidekick

Posted: Updated:

It was an emotional reunion for an Iraq war veteran and his K9 partner.

It took several years but Sergeant Harvey Holt was finally able to adopt his K9 partner "J-Jackson."

Dozens of people lined the streets of Bloomfield, Indiana Thursday to welcome home the town's newest war hero.

Holt says when he was overseas, he made a promise to "J-Jackson."

If the two made it out alive, Holt will adopt "J-Jackson" and give him a good home for the rest of his life.

After a lot of paperwork and help from the community, Holt was able to keep his promise

"It's been awesome. We've had people wiring money from all different states," said Bloomfield State Bank employee, Marcy Vandeventer.

The K9 is a little banged up and will need surgery   but Holt is certain he will be able to provide for his best friend.

"I'm shaking now. I still can't wait to get him home and have a one-on-one time with him," says Holt.

"They're just meant to be together. They've been apart for so long and he's being retired now and he needs to be with his partner," explains Vandeventer.
