Navarro County toddler dies after being shot by another child

Posted: Updated:

A Navarro County 3-year-old died Monday after being shot in the head with a shotgun by his 8-year-old cousin.

The shooting happened in the town of Eureka, southeast of Corsicana, on Monday afternoon according to the Navarro County Sheriff.

The family said the children were playing outside when Braison Howard, 3, and Tristan Howard, 8, went into a shed next to the house. Tristan reportedly picked up an unloaded shotgun from a shelf and loaded it.

The family said Braison then grabbed the gun and Tristan was trying to get it back from him when it went off, shooting Braison in the head. Braison was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.

Braison's body has been taken to Dallas for an autopsy.

Braison's mother says the shotgun was owned by Tristan's family. The sheriff hasn't ruled out charges being filed, pending the completion of the investigation.

Adults were at the home at the time of the shooting.
