Scottsdale Police search for sexual assault suspect

Posted: Updated:

Police are looking for a man who barged into a woman's home and raped her. The suspect posed as a delivery man and police want people in the area to be on alert.

Take a look at the sketch of the suspect, who is described a male with light brown skin, 6 feet tall in his late 20s with greasy hair and was wearing dirty clothing.

When police distributed flyers at the busy apartment complex, residents were stunned that a sexual assault could've happened in the middle of the day.

Authorities say the suspect assaulted the victim in her apartment near Frank Lloyd Wright and Thompson Peak Parkway around 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Michelle Goldschmidt lives in the complex and says police were knocking on everyone's doors.

"Asking me questions.. was I home, did I see anything, hear anything, showed me the sketch that the sketch artist drew," she said.

Goldschmidt didn't recognize the man in the drawing.  Investigators say the suspect knocked on the victim's door, saying he had a delivery, then pushed his way inside when she opened the door.

Police say the suspect restrained the victim with a piece of clothing and started sexually assaulting her, but they say a short time later, his attention was diverted and he left.

Goldschmidt says news of the incident caught her off guard.

"Kids play outside all the time.  People are out on their deck, there are people around very much, so this is not somewhere I would expect something like that to happen and the fact it was in the middle of the day was very odd."

Goldschmidt now carries pepper spray with her and says the incident has raised her awareness.

"If someone knocked on my door and said they had a package, I'd put the chain on and look or ask who it's addressed to or ask to leave it at the office.  Certainly now I wouldn't open the door.  I don't think I would have before either, but certainly not now."
