    The following cities have declared a snow emergency as metro Detroit gets hit with another winter storm expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of fresh snow.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- A winter storm warning continues throughout southeast Michigan through 3 p.m. Wednesday as snow totals are expected to range between 4 to 8 inches.

Weather Authority Jessica Starr says the heaviest of the snow fell between 6-9 a.m. at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour and diminish into early afternoon.

Snow emergencies declared around southeast Michigan

By midmorning, the National Weather Service reported that more than 7 inches had fallen in the Livingston County community of Howell and 5 inches in Oakland County's Waterford Township. In the Lansing and Jackson areas, at least 4 inches of snow has fallen in places with many accidents and slide-offs happening on the roads.

The heaviest snowfall was forecast for the state's southeastern corner, with 6 to 9 inches expected in the Monroe area by Wednesday afternoon. Detroit and southwestern Michigan could get 4 to 8 inches.

AAA Michigan has helped more than 900 drivers, mostly in southeastern Michigan, due to rear-end collisions, cars in ditches and other snow-related mishaps, spokeswoman Nancy Cain said.

The snow should taper off by 4 p.m. Temps will only reach the mid-20s and the winds will be blustery. Winds will average between 20-30 mph with gusts as high as 40.  The winds and snow will create quite the issue for drivers and anybody who plans to be outside.

Record lows are possible tonight as we fall to about 3 degrees.  We warm up heading into the weekend.
