Arlington police said tips from the public and extensive media coverage helped them catch a suspect for an Arlington shoe store manager's death.
Jacob Everett, 21, was arrested late Tuesday night and charged with capital murder for killing 22-year-old Rancy Pacheco.
Pacheco was shot on Feb. 25 at Red Wing Shoes on S. Cooper Street in Arlington.
After the shooting, police released surveillance video from the incident, along with pictures of a suspect vehicle. They got more than 60 tips, including one that led them to Everett.
According to a search warrant affidavit, investigators learned that Everett had owned a truck like the one in the video. He traded it in to a dealership a week after the murder.
Everett admitted he was in the truck outside the store on the day of the crime. He said he waited for a friend and left when she didn't show up, according to the affidavit.
The document states he was arrested after police seized a handgun, mask, hooded sweatshirt and Red Wing boots from his home.
According to court documents, "Everett was asked if he owned any weapons and he stated he owned a 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun which he purchased 2 months prior."
Police say that gun was used in the murder, and detectives recovered it in a search where they were also looking for Red Wing boots in a box and an outfit matching what the suspect was wearing in store surveillance video.
Anita Wasden lives next door to where Everett was arrested.
"All of a sudden, there were all of these police here and a crime scene truck, and they spent the whole day here until about 11 last night," she said.
Police haven't discussed a possible motive.
Pacheco's mother told FOX 4 she is devastated and having a hard time coping with the loss, but that the arrest is a little bit of a relief.
Bail has not yet been set for Everett.
