WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) -

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts is recovering after falling and injuring his head.

Fouts was jogging around 7 a.m. Tuesday when he fell.

He was taken to the hospital and received nine stitched to the forehead. Mild bleeding in his brain was also discovered, so he was kept overnight for observation.

The city says Fouts was fully conscious at all times and declared a snow emergency in Warren Wednesday.

He was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon and is expected to return to work Thursday. He has stayed in contact with department heads during his hospital stay.

In one week, Fouts will undergo a CAT-scan and meet with doctors to determine if the bleeding in his brain has decreased or increased.

The city says Fouts has been an avid jogger since high school.
