Chicagoan confirmed as US ambassador to Canada

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (AP) - The U.S. Senate has confirmed Chicago investment banker Bruce Heyman as the next U.S. ambassador to Canada.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin issued a statement Wednesday after the Senate confirmation. Durbin says Heyman has experience in international business and global affairs that will "prepare him well for a position that services one of America's closest allies and largest trading partners."

Heyman has worked as managing director for private wealth management at Goldman Sachs. He first joined the investment bank in 1980.

Heyman was also a top fundraiser for Obama's re-election campaign and served on the campaign's finance committee.
