I got in over my head again with another unconventional workout. After my first introduction to aerial fitness I think I might be hooked.
Ever since Pink came out swinging at the 2010 Grammys, I've been dying to try aerial acrobatics myself.
I went to Body and Pole. We started on an aluminum hoop, and in a matter of minutes I was up in the air. I was surprised by how natural it felt, kind of like swinging on a jungle gym as a kid.
Next we were off to try the silkier side of aerial fitness. You wrap your feet and wrists around a fabric to create a series of steps. While silks may use the same muscles as the hoop, I didn't have enough upper body strength to get totally vertical.
That was a snapshot of an introductory aerial class at body and pole, which would cost $25 the first time. Prices go up from there. From what I gathered from the instructors, you really can learn these moves pretty quickly.
