PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona's unemployment rate is down slightly.
State Department of Administration researchers say the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for January was 7.5 percent, down from 7.6 percent in December.
The department says Arizona had 42,000 fewer nonfarm jobs in January, a reduction that it calls fairly typical as businesses reduce staffing after the winter holidays.
The private sector accounted for 33,200 of the lost jobs, compared with 9,000 in government.
The department says the economic sector that lost the most jobs was trade, transportation and utilities, with 14,100 fewer positions.
According to the department, the sector's January loss was its smallest for that month since 2005.
