Sylmar, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) A man in his 30s was shot to death in his vehicle on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Sylmar early today in what police believe may have been a road rage attack.

The victim's vehicle was discovered on the Roxford Street offramp from the westbound freeway around 12.50 a.m.  The death of the victim was confirmed by a tweet from the Los Angeles Police Department's Mission Station at 3:24 a.m.

Westbound lanes of the freeway were closed at the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway for around two hours during the investigation as LAPD detectives walked the lanes looking for evidence.

A Los Angeles police dispatcher said the reporting of the stationary vehicle, a black Mitsubishi Eclipse, had initially been treated as a traffic accident by the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle's windows had been blown out, and a bullet hole was visible in the driver's side rear window.

Further tweets from the Mission station, said the shooting appeared to be a result of road rage.

The victim was a local resident, said LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon. "I would surmise he was either coming from, or going to work,'' Vernon told news media outlets.

Vernon said police received four reports of shots fired in the area around 11 p.m. Thursday and were trying to determine if it was connected to the case.
