More than $1.6 million dollars worth of cocaine was seized from an Aurora home Tuesday, the largest cocaine bust in Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez' memory, the Beacon-News is reporting.

"This will have a big impact in our community, and obviously our agency," Perez said at a press conference Friday morning.

A search warrant was executed at the home of Jesus Montes, 43, of the 1600 block of Cambridge Avenue around 6 a.m. Tuesday following a three-month investigation.

Perez said more than 17 kilograms of cocaine, and $259,965 in cash were found inside the residence.

Montes' wife and 1-year-old child were also inside the home when it was raided, officials said.

Montes was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class X felony; possession of a controlled substance and money laundering, according to Kane County court records.

Officials would not comment on how the investigation began, or discuss details of the case. They did note that forfeiture proceedings have begun for the seized cash and three vehicles.

On Wednesday, Montes' bail was set at $5 million. Court records show a motion has been filed to determine the source of funds should bail be posted.

If convicted, Montes faces 15- 60 years in prison, Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said.

On Friday morning, Perez and McMahon discussed the charges near a table laid out with dozens of bundles of cash, and several blocks of cocaine.

"This is the largest cocaine seizure in Kane County, or at least during my career," Perez told reporters.

McMahon said that as a result of the investigation, additional people had been charged, but with unrelated offenses.

The sheriff's department, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, DEA and Kane County Regional SWAT Team assisted in the investigation.

McMahon said Montes is believed to be a Mexican citizen, and that ICE has placed a hold on his custody.

Montes' next court date is scheduled for March 21 in St. Charles.
