CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 55-year-old Chicago woman just received her best birthday present ever — a $4 million dollar check.

Diane Jenkins stopped at a gas station on the way home from work on March 4 — her birthday — and bought two Fabulous Fortune lottery tickets.

"I didn't win anything on the first ticket. When I scratched my second ticket I couldn't believe it was a big winner so I handed it to the clerk to double check it. When all she did was smile, I knew," Jenkins said in a statement from the Illinois Lottery. "I feel like I thanked her four million times!"

Jenkins, who has worked for the U.S. Postal Service for almost 20 years and is a single mother of two, says she plans to share the money with her children and invest for retirement.

"This win will help me in so many ways I can't even write them all down!" she said in the statement.

She purchased the winning ticket at the Citgo at 10007 S. Michigan Ave. The store will receive $40,000, or 1 percent of the winnings.
