Runners kicked off St. Patrick's Day weekend festivities with the "Dash Down Greenville" 5k Saturday morning. The fun run benefits the North Texas Food Bank.
The run is followed by a parade at 11 a.m. down Greenville Ave. The two mile parade route starts at Blackwell St. near the Park Lane Shops and goes to SMU Blvd. For the full parade route and map, click here.
Backpacks, dogs, strollers and coolers have been banned by police.
Parade proceeds benefit the GAABA Scholarship Fund. More than $65,000 in scholarship money has been awarded to Dallas ISD students over the years.
The event is put on by the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association, which is a nonprofit organization.
Because parking spaces are very limited, DART will have trains running every 10 minutes southbound from the Parker Road Station and northbound from the West End Station. The Park, Mockingbird and Lovers Lane stations are all along the parade route.
Greenville Avenue is expected to be back open no later than 4 p.m.
