The same day that friends and loved ones gathered to remember a pregnant mother who was murdered, they learned how she was killed.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner ruled Monday that 24-year-old D'Lisa Kelley was beaten and strangled to death.
Her body was found at an abandoned Oak Cliff home on March 14 – one week after she was last seen.
Just before Kelley, who was eight weeks pregnant, disappeared, her sister received a frightening call from Kelley's cell phone. The sister said she heard screaming in the background.
The news that she was beaten and strangled is no surprise to Kelley's family, who says her final desperate phone call signified she was attacked.
Police have not made an arrest.
Monday night was a chance for the family to focus on Kelley's life -- more than 100 people showed up to a candlelight vigil, hoping Kelley's violent murder won't overshadow the joy she brought to those who knew her.
"If you had her in the middle of a room, she would light up the room, you understand?" said Kelley's friend, Dominque Alexander. "She wasn't a down person."
The family still has no answers to that phone call Kelley's sister, Jasmine Steward, heard. Family members tried to call Kelley back, but no one answered, and someone was returning their texts.
Dallas police say they have nothing new yet on who the man's voice was on the other line.
Kelley's 2-year-old son, Dunyae, was at the vigil.
Family members just hope the boy understands and knows how his mother lived -- not the way she died.
