Suspected child predator caught in Dallas

DALLAS -

Dallas police caught a suspected Dallas child predator Monday night.

David Vincent Rodriguez, 41, was arrested following an incident near the intersection of Park Lane and Dalecrest Drive.

Rodriguez is accused of fondling a 6-year-old girl at Value World in Pleasant Grove on Saturday evening, and then attempting to kidnap another girl from her apartment complex on Monday.

Witnesses say the victim at Value World told her mother what happened, who then located and started beating Rodriguez. He allegedly took off running and got away.

Police say the second incident happened across town in Northwest Dallas at the Santa Monica Apartments. Rodriguez allegedly approached another 6-year-old girl who was playing outside around 8 p.m.

Within minutes, that victim went inside and told her dad, "A man tried to take me." Rodriguez allegedly promised the girl chocolate and a trip to Chuck E. Cheese's.

The girl managed to struggle and got away.

Police were called to the scene, where they found Rodriguez hiding in a nearby dumpster with a pair of little girls' panties in his pocket.

Adriana Rojas, a parent who lives near where the incidents happened, says she's keeping a much closer eye on her kids.

"Not good for the kids, because every day, the kids playing right here, and sometimes we are inside and we don't see them," said Rojas.

Rodriguez is charged with aggravated kidnapping. He is also charged with unlawful restraint in the incident from Saturday.

In 2001, Rodriguez was charged with indecency with a child with sexual contact. Those charges were dropped, however. Police did not tell FOX 4 why.

Most recently, there was a warrant out for his arrest out of Arlington, but it's unclear what that was for.

Police say they connected the crimes because the two suspect descriptions matched.

Rodriguez is also reportedly a regular customer at Value World, and the manager there recognized him because he'd recently purchased furniture and asked to have it delivered.

Police said they tried several addresses for Rodriguez, but didn't find him until they ended up catching him in the dumpster.
