Man shot after trying to stop domestic violence

DALLAS -

A Dallas man was shot and killed overnight. His family said it happened minutes after he tried to intervene in a case of domestic violence.

Rubin Brown, 27, was rushed to Baylor Medical Center, but died a short time later.

Quenetha Bell, Brown's fiancee, said they heard a commotion at about 1:40 a.m. outside their home near Pine and Crozier streets, which is about 10 blocks south of Fair Park.

Bell said a man was beating up a woman and choking her. Brown rushed to help, but then things took a bizarre turn.

The couple threatened Brown and then left together. Minutes later their home was sprayed with gunfire, Bell said.

"Rubin was playing a game in the living room. He was trying to duck down when he heard the shots and they shot him in his heart, his lungs and his kidney," she said.

Brown's family said he worked for the U.S. Postal Service.

He leaves behind a young son, who is celebrating a birthday today.

Police are still investigating and looking for suspects.
