A Flower Mound teen who was on spring break in Gulf Shores, AL was killed early Friday morning after she was hit by a suspected drunk driver, according to Gulf Shores police.
Kasey Nicole Waychoff, 19, was walking along West Beach Boulevard when she was struck by 29-year-old Justin Ellis Lott of Montgomery, police said.
Police were called to the scene around 1:45 a.m. Waychoff was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead around 2:30 a.m.
Police said Lott left the scene of the crash. A sheriff's deputy in the area happened to spot Lott's truck, which matched the description of the one a 911 caller described.
The deputy then pulled Lott over to investigate, and Lott was subsequently arrested for DUI.
According to The Daily O'Collegian, Waychoff attended Oklahoma State University, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
"There was sorority sisters running and screaming and we knew someone was hurt," said witness Christina Glenn.
Waychoff's uncle, Jeff, says Waychoff was treasured. She was the only girl in a family full of boys, and she was adventurous.
"She was always beautiful, inside and out," said Jeff. "She was humble. She was easy going and easy to be with. And she cared about other people."
Jeff says what really stood out about her is the way she was always willing to help others.
