Suffolk County launches anti-bullying program

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A plan to fight bullying in Suffolk County has students and their parents banding together. It includes raising awareness in Suffolk County and developing new resources to help those who need support in school, especially for middle and high school students.

High school students are training to help other students who are being bullied. These peer educators plan to help kids who are being bullied learn to stand up for themselves at school. They will also encourage others to report bullies. Special attention will be paid to the abuse of social media among students.

The peer training is one of a number of programs now part of an anti-bullying campaign launched by Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone.

The county is also creating a bullying awareness website that will provide support and guidance for children who are or have been bullied.
