CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Jared Glass, 16, has been a fighter his entire life. Battling sickle cell anemia, he was diagnosed with the blood disorder at just 3-months-old. He has spent many long days and nights at Advocate Children's Hospital-Park Ridge for monthly blood transfusions and treatments.

"Jared's been at this hospital since he was born. It's like a second home. We are here often," said Zenja Glass, Jared's mom.

Years of chemotherapy and surgery to remove Jared's spleen hasn't stopped this sophomore at Wheeling High School. He's an inspiration, and a huge Bulls fan.

"I love all of them. I'm really excited to see them tomorrow," Jared said.

However, Jared isn't just going to see his favorite team. He's also going to meet them. He's being honored at the United Center Saturday night as an honorary team captain.

"Not a lot of people get the chance to do something like this. I feel very blessed," added Jared.

A blessing that Jared's mom says couldn't have come at a better time.

"He had been in intensive care for almost a week, went home for two days and was right back in again. It was bad," said Zenja.

However, bad quickly turned to amazing when the hospital called to ask if Jared wanted to be a Bulls captain.

"He fell out on the floor, and running throughout the house. I thought we would have to go back to the ER," added Zenja.

Jared is obviously very excited, but he is keeping a humble heart.

"It's tough having sickle cell anemia. I know lots of kids that deserved it way more than me. I'm just blessed they chose me," Jared said.

Jared will be joined by Ricardo Guthrie, who will also receive the title of honorary captain.

Fourteen-year-old Guthrie of Palos Hills is a sickle cell anemia patient as well.

Both boys are excited to meet their heroes. They will shake hands with the athletes right before tip-off at center court. Each boy will receive an autographed game ball as well.
