Nick Cannon in whiteface stirs controversy

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - A photo rapper and TV host Nick Cannon posted of himself in whiteface and the messages that followed are being criticized for being offensive.

One Instagram post reads: "Damn I didn't know it was going to be this hard being White... I'm exhausted with all this "privilege" LOL #WhitePeopleProblems"

Cannon is getting ready to drop a new album titled 'White People Party Music' and the whiteface character dubbed 'Connor Smallnut'- is part of the album's promotional campaign. It hits stores April 1.

"It's funny how people take themselves so seriously. People love drama. We feed off of it. Just relax and have fun!!" reads another post from @NickCannon.

Responses online range from "racist," "ignorant," and "hypocritical."

The reverse, blackface, was used by performers usually in comedies to make themselves look like a black person. Its use is steeped in racism and is considered offensive.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
