Man’s Fight To Bear Arms

Posted: Updated:
Sussex County, NJ (My9NJ) - John Drake is a New Jersey business owner who’s fighting for the right to carry a concealed gun in public and he’s willing to take his battle all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Drake owns a business operating ATMs and wants to carry a weapon because, as part of his job, he carries anywhere from $4,000 to $50,000 in cash from the trunk of his car to ATMs inside the stores in order to fill them up.

Drake said that he has had three close-calls with criminals while carrying large amounts of cash and filed for a permit to protect himself.

The state of New Jersey rejected the application saying that he didn't have an urgent necessity for self protection under his circumstances.  The state did not consider his request a "justifiable need."

“Our Second Amendment right which is, of course, one of the amendments in our Bill of Rights applies to all us states in the United States. It’s actually why they call the United States as singular and not plural,” he explained.
Drake, with help from the Second Amendment Foundation and the Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs, has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear his case.

19 states have also joined the legal fight against New Jersey's concealed weapons law.

Empty spaces are popping up all over Atlantic City with the closing of three major casinos: Revel, Trump Plaza, and Showboat. Even with all of this going on, the city is still trying to use eminent domain to take away the home of an Atlantic City local legend, Piano Man Charlie Birnbaum. Birnbaum has tuned pianos for icons like: Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and John Legend. He's been a resident of Atlantic City in the same home for over 50 years.

Sadly, Jeter the pit bull puppy is missing. While dogs go missing all the time, there are two specific things that distinguish this story from others. First, several witnesses say Jeter didn't wonder off and that they saw Jeter get taken. Second, the community has rallied in a huge way to help find the loveable pup.
