Returning Soldier Meets Fiancee For The First Time

Posted: Updated:

A soldier stationed overseas for nearly two years returned home to New York last Thursday night to his fiancee.

This looks like a typical day at the airport to the casual observer -- soldier comes home, and his girlfriend smothers him with kisses. However, this homecoming was anything but ordinary.

"My heart stopped for a minute, I didn't know I was like, 'Oh my god, there he is,' and then took off running," Lindsey Clagg said.

Army Specialist Joe Gardner was just as excited to meet Clagg for the first time.

"It's exciting, that's the best word I can describe it. I was so excited to get off the plane... and meet her in person for the first time," Gardner said.

While Army Specialist Joe Gardner was in Korea for 21 months, he met Lindsey Clagg on Match.com.

This was the first time they met face to face.

"It's great because I've spent a year just staring at a computer screen, you know, with our Skype conversations and everything. So, now to have him home, words just can't explain how happy I am," Clagg said.

After falling in love, Joe popped the question over Skype, which meant seconds after meeting Lindsey in person, he also met her parents.

"I can't get over that he's here. We've waited so long, and we've had many disappointments in the past where he was supposed to come home and it didn't happen. So, now that he's finally here and I've got him, he's not going anywhere," Clagg said.
